This week was weird, everything in our area changed... Winchester is known for not non members not accepting service everyone just likes there independence but then Elder Horne got here and it was like God new we were ready and willing to serve. We helped 3 people move and weeded one garden. I know that's not much but it is the most we have had while I have been here. Service always softens people's heart! One lady we helped name is Tammy, her and her daughter in law were just sitting on the porch watching the kids and they looked in a little grief, they had a Ford truck loaded with beds and a couch. So we yell do you need any help. Well they basically ignored us but we felt s strong need to be persistent so we turned around. Instantly the daughter said no but after we got them talking we learned they were just watching the furniture because the movers they hired didn't show up. And they were wait for Tammy's husband to get home to help while Tammy and her daughter in law got the other end. Tammy has stage for cancer, we were incredibly bold and they let us unload the couch. Then they stopped us, thank you you have done plenty we can get the rest.. they did not want us helping... we replied where does this go until the truck was loaded then finally they asked who we were. We shared about our restored message, and tammy was amazed we answered questions she has never been able to answer. They requested 7 book of mormons so that there whole family can read together! They are awesome I love them.
Another one we walked up to the house instantly this ex-marine gets up close and asks what we want. As his brother follows him... that looked like they were ready to beat us.... they almost rejected help but then the daughter reminded them they still had a truck load left. As we went back and forth in the house more of their relatives showed up and many hearts were softened. They did have a church but we are hoping that they will be willing to hear us out after we help again this week. But by the end of it they were all very grateful, they also were suprised when we didn't force our church on them after helping.
The weirdest part of the week, Elder Horne is adored in this area, a girl sent her brother over too us to ask for his snapchat. Not once but twice! We had some good laughs about it. Then another recent highschool graduate will only listen while one of us teaches. If is very clear she is crushing and trying to flirt a bit. But hey she has read the first 10 chapters of 1st Nephi
and liked it so we will see where that goes...
Spiritual moment,
This week I have taken president nelsons challenge to look for what we would be missing without the book of mormon as I read in the morning. The best summary I can say us we would be lost, I would not know my relationship to God, I would not have hope for the next life. The book of mormon is most definitely true!
